Founded by Hitesh Mahawar, Shala is a sacred space dedicated to preserving and sharing authentic yogic wisdom, Sanatan Dharma, and conscious living. Through thoughtfully designed programs, retreats, and immersive learning experiences, we are building a growing spiritual community of 25,000+ seekers committed to inner transformation and holistic wellbeing.

If you’re passionate about teaching yoga as a complete way of life, not just physical practice, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role:

We are looking for a skilled Female Yoga Instructor trained in the Sivananda tradition to join and live at Shala Gurukulam, Sogi, Shimla.

This is a residential role for someone who wants to immerse themselves in a yogic environment while leading yoga, pranayama, meditation, relaxation, and mantra practices across Shala’s online programs and in-person retreats, workshops, and immersive experiences.

You will work closely with the Program, Experience, and Operations teams to create safe, meaningful, and deeply aligned experiences for our sadhaks.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Facilitation

  • Lead live online and in-person yoga sessions for sadhaks.
  • Teach Sivananda-style asana, pranayama, meditation, relaxation, and mantra chanting with technical accuracy and experiential depth.
  • Conduct regular yoga and sadhana sessions as part of the Gurukul’s daily rhythm.
  • Adapt practices based on participant needs, experience levels, and learning formats.
  • Maintain high standards of safety, alignment, and awareness of contraindications.

Program Delivery & Experience

  • Be an active part of the daily rhythm and community life of the Gurukul.
  • Collaborate with Program Managers and Experience Designers to align sessions with learning objectives.
  • Prepare session plans, practice flows, and progression structures for multi-day and multi-week programs.
  • Facilitate retreats, workshops, intensives, and special programs at the Ashram.
  • Support the participant journey through thoughtful sequencing and pacing of practices.

Content & Communication

  • Communicate instructions, yogic philosophy, and context clearly in fluent English.
  • Guide Sanskrit mantra chanting with correct pronunciation, rhythm, and devotional integrity.
  • Contribute to recorded practices, curriculum development, and learning resources when required.
  • Ensure all teaching reflects Shala’s values, grounded, respectful, inclusive, and non-dogmatic.

Professionalism & Collaboration

  • Be punctual, prepared, and fully present for all sessions and events.
  • Live respectfully within the Gurukul’s shared environment and uphold its culture and values.
  • Coordinate closely with Operations, Community, and Support teams.
  • Share feedback after programs to continuously improve participant experience.
  • Maintain professional ethics, healthy boundaries, and compassionate leadership.

You’re a Great Fit If You:

  • Have 2+ years of yoga teaching experience, preferably with intermediate to advanced practitioners.
  • Are formally trained or certified in Sivananda Yoga or have strong experience in the Sivananda tradition.
  • Have a strong personal practice and embody yogic principles in daily life.
  • Are confident teaching asana, pranayama, meditation, relaxation, and Sanskrit mantra chanting.
  • Are fluent in English and comfortable teaching diverse audiences.
  • Are emotionally grounded, reliable, collaborative, and comfortable holding space with sensitivity.
  • Are genuinely comfortable with residential Ashram living and its discipline, simplicity, and rhythm.

What You’ll Get:

  • The opportunity to live and teach at Shala Gurukulam, Shoghi, Shimla.
  • An immersive environment for personal practice, learning, and growth.
  • The opportunity to teach within thoughtfully designed yoga and wellbeing programs.
  • Exposure to online programs, retreats, workshops, and immersive experiences.
  • A supportive, respectful, and purpose-driven team culture.
  • High trust, autonomy, and meaningful creative contribution.
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and level of involvement.
