Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Backend Developer – Technical Lead with 10+ years of experience to lead the design, development, and growth of scalable, secure, and high-performing backend platforms. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an engineer who has strong experience making structural decisions, designing distributed systems, and guiding engineering teams.

The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of Python, FastAPI, distributed systems, cloud-based app development, database design, and modern software engineering practices. You will define backend structure, set engineering standards, and guide teams in building large-scale, business-ready applications.

Key Responsibilities

System Design & Structure

• Design complete backend structures with a focus on scalability, strength, easy maintenance, and security.
• Define service boundaries, data ownership, communication patterns, and how systems connect with each other.
• Choose and apply suitable structural patterns, including:
  • Modular Monoliths
  • Microservices
  • Event-Driven Architecture
  • Layered Architecture
  • Hexagonal (Ports & Adapters) Architecture
• Weigh the pros and cons of different structures based on performance, scalability, cost, and operational complexity.
• Create Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), High-Level Designs (HLDs), Low-Level Designs (LLDs), Data Flow Diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Lead structure reviews and set backend engineering standards across teams.

Backend Developer

• Design, build, and maintain high-performing backend applications using Python and FastAPI.
• Build secure, scalable RESTful APIs, background services, and microservices.
• Build apps that can handle many tasks at once using async programming techniques.
• Design solutions for background processing, scheduling, caching, and data-heavy tasks.
• Follow clean structure, SOLID principles, design patterns, and test-first development.
• Review code with a focus on quality, easy maintenance, scalability, and performance.

Data Engineering & Storage

• Design and improve relational databases including PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Build efficient database layouts, indexing methods, query improvements, transactions, and isolation methods.
• Design scalable NoSQL data structures using MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB, or similar databases.
• Choose the right storage technology based on consistency, scalability, and how data will be accessed.
• Plan database migrations, version changes, and backward compatibility strategies.

Distributed Systems

• Design highly available systems that keep working even when parts fail.
• Set up strategies for:
  • Retry mechanisms
  • Timeouts
  • Circuit breakers
  • Idempotency (avoiding duplicate actions)
  • Horizontal scaling (adding more machines to handle load)
  • Load balancing
• Build event-driven systems using messaging tools such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Amazon SQS, or similar.
• Understand consistency models, data replication, partitioning, and distributed transaction patterns.

Cloud & DevOps

• Design and launch cloud-based applications on AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Package applications using Docker.
• Set up CI/CD pipelines for automatic building, testing, and deployment.
• Understand Kubernetes basics including Pods, Services, Ingress, Autoscaling, and managed Kubernetes platforms.
• Work with DevOps and SRE teams on monitoring, logging, visibility, and keeping production reliable.

Technical Leadership

• Act as the technical owner for backend platforms and services.
• Lead structure discussions and technical decision-making.
• Guide senior and mid-level engineers through technical direction and code reviews.
• Set engineering best practices, coding standards, and development processes.
• Work with Product Managers, Architects, QA, and Business stakeholders to turn business needs into scalable technical solutions.
• Drive ongoing improvement efforts across backend engineering teams.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
• At least 3+ years of hands-on real-world experience with FastAPI.
• Expert-level skill in Python.
• Strong skill in designing RESTful APIs, async programming, and backend frameworks.
• Wide experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Hands-on experience with at least one NoSQL database such as MongoDB, Redis, or DynamoDB.
• Deep understanding of:
  • Backend structural patterns
  • Object-Oriented Design
  • SOLID Principles
  • Design Patterns (GoF)
  • Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
  • Clean Architecture
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, scalability, strength, and fault tolerance.
• Experience designing and maintaining large-scale backend platforms.
• Practical experience with cloud infrastructure, app packaging, and automated deployment.
• Strong understanding of API security, OAuth2, JWT, authentication, and access control.
• Experience with Git, Agile/Scrum methods, and modern software development practices.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience moving single large applications into microservices, or evaluating modernization strategies.
• Experience designing event-driven or streaming systems.
• Knowledge of API Gateways, service meshes, rate limiting, and API lifecycle management.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).
• Some experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, Datadog, or OpenTelemetry.
• Previous experience as a Senior Backend Developer, Technical Lead, Lead Backend Developer, or Solution Architect.
